Welcome to the Samsung forum on CNET! Samsung worked with CNET to create a forum where people can ask questions and talk about all Samsung products and get help with everything from HDTVs, Smart TVs, home theater components, phones, cmaeras to monitors and printers. This forum is staffed by Samsung employees, but as we have seen in the past, often the most helpful answers come from CNET forum members themselves so please don't consider this just a Q and A with Samsung. This is a CNET forum and Samsung is here to be part of the conversation.

I am ready to scream! I just upgraded the Firmware on the above mentioned Blu Ray Player and now it won't play any DVD or Blu Ray Disc. I just get the LOAD, MENU and it kind of sits there doing nothing, then an error on the tv saying it can't play the disc. Any disc.none that it played previously, nothing. So I go looking on the internet to find out what the problem is. Only to find about a million other people that enjoyed the same problem.buy a dvd player and then the very company you purchased it from urges you repeatedly when you turn it on, to upgrade the player with their firmware. You do what they tell you to do, and it renders your player JUNK!

NICE SCAM SAMSUNG!!! Just as the other posters have said this RESET fix, didn't work. Of course once you replace your firmware with another there's not much chance the old firmware can be reset. Considering a firmware update is a reprogramming of the machine. What else ya got Samsung?

I already called the 1-800 number, they don't have a fix for this either. Just the pat answer 'if this doesn't work you must need service'.funny how no one needed service until the firmware upgrade! I have been searching to see if there's a class action against Samsung for this, considering it happens to 99% of the people that bought these machines. This is just really an amazing trick Samsung is pulling.you either pay for Samsung Tech support to install the old firmware, or you buy a new DVD player. Those are the choices? Hi HDTech, Thanks for this reply, even if it is less than helpful. You see, when I described it as a brick, it really is very close to a brick.

There's nothing on any menu system that I (or the Samsung HDTV it's attached to) can find - the 'interface' is a blank screen - not unlike the Blue Screen of Death. There's a slight, unusual hum on the audio channel, but nothing that invites, suggests, or implies any action. True, Bricks don't eject disks, or display LOAD and MENU, but other than that, it is quite brick-like. Actually I think it goes to prove just how inept their tech people are. I don't think they're intelligent enough to pull off a scam like this. It may appear this way, but in reality they are stumped!

While everyone else can get it right, i.e. Panasonic, Sony, etc., Samsungs' tech side is just not capable or smart enough to fix the issue. I've owned my BD-P 1600 for two years now, purchased upon my return from Iraq. I only watched a handful of Blu-ray movies on it prior to the firmware updates. Since them I haven't been able to watch a single Blu-ray movie on it. I can't rest it either, so there it sits as a testament on a product to never purchase again.

Maybe in a 1000 years an advanced race will find it and say how antiquated it was for its time! I will say though, I own a samsung refrigerator and it Rocks! As fast as entertainment, I'll stick to my 7.1 bluray Panasonic system, Awesome video and sound. For what it's worth, Jason in Georgia gman1811@gmail.com. Jjharrell, If resetting the unit doesn't fix it, call and get a transaction number and post it here. I've helped a number of people get their units repaired if the firmware update causes an issue.

There are posts here noting that the reset options I've posted work. It does for some, and not for everybody. Don't let your unit sit there as a testament. Call up, explain that it bricked due to a firmware update. If they aren't able to assist, ask for the transaction number for your call and post it here. I'll be happy to have a manager review the situation. I do appreciate the kind words on the refrigerator, but let's see if we can get your Blu-Ray situation reviewed, too.
